Saunders Record Still Stands 32 Years Later
The high jump portion of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham has concluded, and the record-breaking jump by Bermuda’s Clarence “Nicky” Saunders continues to stand the test of time, remaining unbroken after 32 years.
Mr. Saunders – who also made three Olympic appearances for Bermuda – leaped 2.36 metres [7.74ft] at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in New Zealand, becoming the first Bermudian to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, and since that time we have claimed two more, courtesy of Dame Flora Duffy.
We retweet ourselves — from 4 years ago — to say same thing, as 2022 Commonwealth Games high jump concluded & record-breaking jump by #Bermuda’s Nicky Saunders remains unbroken, he has now held record for 32 years. Back in 1990 that was our first gold, now we have three https://t.co/WucbJmlbr7
