Hurricane Fiona is a “threat to Bermuda”, the BWS said, adding that “dangerous seas and periods of heavy rain are expected from late Thursday.”

The BWS posted the graphic online below, saying, “Update 6.45am Tuesday 20 September 2022 – Fiona is now the first major Hurricane of the 2022 season. Category 3 Hurricane Fiona is now in the open Atlantic about 850 miles SSW of Bermuda [near the Turks and Caicos Islands]. Fiona is gathering strength, and is expected to intensify to a Category 4 storm in the next 24 hours.

“Hurricane Fiona is now considered a threat to Bermuda. Its centre is confidently projected to track around 100 miles west of Bermuda in the early hours of Friday morning. Hurricane force winds are possible; dangerous seas and periods of heavy rain are expected from late Thursday, in advance of its closest approach. Now is the time to start preparations and be mindful of your wind exposure – Hurricane Fiona’s winds will be from the southeast through southwest [different from the previous storm].
