The UK has postponed the annual Joint Ministerial Council set for next week in London, so the Premier will reschedule his travel once the new dates have been confirmed; the two events planned for Bermudians in the UK will be postponed to coincide with the new meeting date.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Cabinet Office today confirmed that the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office [FCDO] has now postponed the annual Joint Ministerial Council set for next week in London.

“This meeting of Overseas Territories [OT] Heads of Government with UK Government Ministers ordinarily addresses key issues related to the OTs and provides direct interaction between Heads of Government, OT Ministers, officials and their counterparts in the UK. Following the change in leadership in the UK a Minister of State for the OTs has only been appointed today [November 2]

“Premier David Burt had been scheduled to travel to London for these meetings but in light of the UK Government’s decision, that travel will be rescheduled once new dates have been confirmed.

“The Government of Bermuda London Office advises Bermudians in the United Kingdom that the two Bermuda Dinner & Dialogue events, previously set to be held in London and Nottingham will be postponed to coincide with the JMC.

“Bermudians who have registered with the London Office will be kept up-to-date via email of future opportunities for dinner and dialogue. The London Office encourages all Bermudians in the UK to continue to register with the office via the bdalondonoffice/co.uk.”
