The Bermuda women’s hockey team will step up their preparations for the Central American and Caribbean Games by hosting a three-game tournament against a New York team.

The Bermuda Onions v Big Apple Tournament, held at the National Sports Centre from March 10 to 12, will help the national women’s team build towards the CAC Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in June and July.

Coach Kovin Moodley’s side qualified for the quadrennial Games after finishing top of their group in the CAC Games qualifiers on home soil in April last year.

Big Apple Hockey Federation [BAHF] is an organisation which aims to grow the sport on the East Coast of the United States.

Nigel Traverso, the director of BAHF, who represented the US at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984, will travel with the team.

The Bermuda Hockey Federation posted on its Instagram page: “As the Bermuda women’s national field hockey team continue their preparations for the Central American and Caribbean Games, this tournament weekend will provide a high standard of competition for the team to formally practise their principles in a game situation.

“[Admission] to the tournament is free, and we welcome the public to come and support our national women’s training team and give a big welcome to Big Apple Hockey for a weekend of high-level hockey.”
