ABIR Announces Leadership Appointments
The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers [ABIR] announced “changes in the leadership of its most influential committee and an expansion of its working groups’ focus areas, drawing on the professional talent of member companies.”
A spokesperson said, “Jim Paugh, of Arch Re, has been appointed Co-Chair of the ABIR Policy Committee, alongside continuing Co-Chair Jevon Williams, of Chubb Bermuda. Paugh replaces Gemma Carreiro, of Hamilton, who served a two-year stint in the Co-Chair role. Shannon Lowry Bender, of RenaissanceRe, will serve as the Deputy Chair.
“The Policy Committee, made up of leading legal and compliance professionals in the Bermuda re/insurance market, carries out valuable work for ABIR’s member companies, reviewing insurance regulation in Bermuda and overseas, international regulatory standards, public policy in Bermuda, and US natural disaster policy and regulation.
“The ABIR Cyber Working Group has been expanded to address underwriting and information security risks within this fast-growing sector of the Bermuda market. Devin Page, of Ascot, has been appointed Cyber Underwriting Chair, with Yosha DeLong, of Mosaic Insurance, the Cyber Deputy Underwriting Chair. Allen Wilson, of AXIS Capital, was selected as Cyber Information Security Chair, while Lloyd Holder, of SiriusPoint, will serve as Cyber Deputy Information Security.
“Bermuda’s emergence as the cyber re/insurance market leader was underscored this month during panel discussions at the Bermuda Risk Summit, which attracted 450 delegates — one third of them from overseas — and generated an estimated local economic impact of $1.8 million.
“In addition, the new ABIR Solvency Enhancement Working Group will address regulatory, solvency enhancements. Liz Cunningham, of Somers Re, has been appointed as Chair. Suzanne Williams-Charles, ABIR’s Director of Policy and Regulation, Corporate Secretary, and Data Privacy Officer, will staff the Policy Committee and both working groups.”
Pina Albo, Chair of ABIR and CEO of Hamilton, said: “I want to thank Gemma for the great leadership and hard work she has contributed to the Policy Committee on behalf of ABIR’s member companies.
“The tremendous work carried out by ABIR’s committees and working groups is made possible by the many talented professionals who give generously of their time and knowledge, for the benefit of our world-leading Bermuda re/insurance market. I salute their valuable efforts.”
John Huff, President and CEO of ABIR, said: “These appointments highlight the deep bench of world-class talent within Bermuda’s re/insurance industry. We are grateful that these industry leaders are working together with ABIR to advance the public policy interests of our member companies, as they continue their important work of finding solutions to manage the world’s largest and most complex risks.”
