City Announces 2023 VIVID Public Art Workshop
The City of Hamilton announced the “inclusion of an international artist in the 2023 VIVID Public Art Initiative.”
A spokesperson said, “Large-scale mural specialist Andre Trenier, hailing from the Bronx, New York, has been creating street murals for the last 20 years. Many of his murals are odes to great sports figures such as Muhammad Ali, Mickey Mantle, and Jackie Robinson as well as rapper Sean Price and musical group Heavy D. & the Boyz, all of which grace the streets of the Bronx and Washington Heights and have been viral sensations.
“Trenier has competed internationally, mostly in Europe, in Art Battles, where he has won special awards for individual and collaborative entries. The City of Hamilton has invited Trenier to the island in April as part of VIVID 2023.
“Over the course of two days, he will present a free mural workshop, highlighting his techniques, open to members of the public. The workshop will coincide with World Art Day on April 15th. He will commence the installation of a mural within the City on April 17th.”
Trenier said of his visit to Bermuda, “This will be my first trip to Bermuda and I am extremely excited! As far as my hopes for the workshop… great weather and enthusiastic participants!
“I bring a fairly unique set of skills from illustration to painting with spray paint and making murals that I hope will add something to the arts community. I am looking forward to making memories in a new place, meeting new people and leaving something beautiful behind for them to remember me by.”
Marketing Coordinator, Sideya Dill, added, “We’re excited to see what Andre will bring to Bermuda’s art scene and hopefully, more artists are encouraged to come out and explore a new way to create on a larger scale! The hands-on workshop is free and an invaluable chance to work with a world-renowned artist and we look forward to a great turnout from all levels of artistic experience. VIVID is an important program that aims to enliven various areas in the City of Hamilton and continue to develop opportunities to collaborate with our local arts community to celebrate arts and culture in the City of Hamilton and Bermuda.”
The spokesperson said, “To register to attend the free workshop or for additional information visit the City’s website at www.cityofhamilton.bm or email events@cityhall.bm.”
