Interview With CedarBridge’s Richard Lindsay

Mr. Richard Lindsay is dedicated to teaching and mentoring young people who want to be automotive trailblazers.
In January 2020, Mr. Lindsay, a beloved employee of CedarBridge Academy, joined the teaching faculty. Richard fondly recalled how, at the age of seven, his interest in the mechanical world first began to take root while watching his father fix cars in Jamaica.
He learned the intricacies of the trade by working on numerous model vehicles. It was only natural for him to pursue his technical education in high school and college.
Mr. Lindsay is well-rounded, as evidenced by his Level II Barbering certification. He was a corporal in the Jamaica Defense Force for thirteen years, as well as an instructor for automotive service technicians and a supervisor.
Mr. Lindsay’s unwavering love for education and the auto industry influenced his decision to leave the military. Mr. Lindsay stressed the joyful aspects of teaching while also expressing his satisfaction at being a part of an influential group of people making a difference in Bermuda’s future. His mission is to always deliver a high-quality technical education to his students.
What is the Automotive Technology course all about?
The Automotive Technology course at CBA is an introductory program designed to train students who want to work in the automotive industry. This course is intended for students with no prior knowledge of automotive technology. This course covers topics such as Workshop Safety, First Aid Training, Fire Extinguisher Training, Engine Systems, Transmission Systems, Brake Systems, Suspension Systems, and much more. Students who complete their studies are prepared to enter higher education, the working world, or perhaps entrepreneurship.
What inspired you to become an Automotive Technology teacher?
I enjoy teaching as well as technical studies. I’ve always been fascinated with mechanical and electrical systems, physics, chemistry, and computer systems, along with how these principles are applied to vehicle operation. I just had to explore this field of study.
What is one of your most memorable teaching moments at CBA?
My most memorable moment was when the students transformed the trashed go-karts and into powerful treasures. They applied every topic they were taught and conducted their own research to complete the repair work.
What are the benefits of taking the course?
Students enrolled in this course will gain the hands-on experience required to function in the world of modern machinery and vehicle systems, as well as emerging technologies of the future.
What career options are accessible for students?
After completing this course of study, students can work as an Automotive Technician, Collision Repair Technician, Transmission Specialist, Vehicle Paint Technician, Parts Specialist, and so on.
