Bermudian boxer Saundre “Dash” Simmons hopes to make his professional debut next month after the cancellation of his upcoming amateur bout against Nathan Lugo.

The 25-year-old was scheduled to face Lugo, considered one of the top prospects in the United States – in Marietta, Georgia, on May 6.

Simmons will now look to make his pro debut in Charlotte, North Carolina, on May 20.

“The Lugo fight has been cancelled,” Simmons told Bernews. “He pulled out of it. I’m disappointed, but this is boxing.

“It’s straight to the pros now. I’m still looking for an opponent. Nothing is concrete yet.”

Simmons, born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, but raised in Somerset by Bermudian parents, came runner-up in the USA National Championships in Shreveport, Louisiana, and the Golden Gloves of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the elite super heavyweight division in 2021.
