Bermuda Finish Island Games With Ten Medals
Bermuda secured an impressive tally of 10 medals at the 2023 Island Games held in Guernsey, with the medal haul consisting of three medals in tennis, two in archery, two in golf, and one each in sailing, bowls, and football.
It was a proud moment for Bermuda as the women’s football team claimed the gold medal, demonstrating their dominance on the field by claiming victory on massive style, going undefeated the whole tournament and scoring a total of 15 goals and not conceding a single goal.
Golfer Ebonie Cox emerged as a shining star, clinching a well-deserved gold medal for her exceptional performance, while the women’s golf team of Ebonie Cox, Tracy Burgess, Kimberley Botelho and Ann Symonds also left their mark, securing a silver medal.
Archery proved to be another strong suit for Bermuda, as Bernard Wade III demonstrated his prowess with a stellar display, securing both a silver and a bronze medal, while David Leach secured a bronze medal in bowls.
Tennis was also a source of glory for Bermuda, as men’s tennis team earned a hard-fought bronze medal, Shelby Madeiros showcased her prowess in tennis singles and secured a bronze medal, and the doubles tennis team, consisting of Gavin Manders and James Finnigan, demonstrated exceptional teamwork and skill, securing a bronze medal for their performance.
Bermuda’s longstanding success in sailing was epitomized by the exceptional performance of Nicole Stovell, who earned a bronze medal, with the 18-year-old also the top female finisher in the co-ed sailing competition.
The next Island Games will be hosted by the Scottish island of Orkney in July 2025.
