The U14 Bermuda football team claimed another win at the 2023 CFU Girls U14 Challenge Series, this time defeating Barbados by a score of 2-1.

The Caribbean Football Union report said, “Bermuda triumphed 2-1 over Barbados in an exciting encounter of the 2023 CFU Girls’ U14 Challenge Series at the ABFA Technical Center on Monday.

“Playing in a Tier II Group B match, Barbados opened the scoring in the 6th minute when Jadaé Lorde brilliantly passed the ball to Danika Antoine. Antoine, who sped past the defender for a 1v1 with the keeper, hit it low, making it impossible for the diving custodian to save.

“This did not dampen the spirits of the young Bermudans, as they created several opportunities to equalize. It was in the 24th minute that they levelled score line from a corner kick, which landed on the boot of Miyari Trott, who beat the Barbadian keeper, Ukayla Dallaway.

“Bermuda had another chance to extend the lead in the 35th minute from an Avery Taylor strike that had the keeper groveling for ball.

“On the resumption, both teams came out fighting for three points, as this game was the decider for the top of the table.

“The young Tridents tried to make it two but were denied by Semaj Baisden-Scott who had a comfortable save.

“Taylor put Bermuda ahead in the 60th minute when she received a ball across the goal where she was unmarked with lots of time, and she calmly hit it past the goalie.

“Barbados, who only needed a draw to sit at the top of the point standings, tried to even the score when Gabrielle Birmingham took a free kick straight to the goal. This prompted Baisden-Scott to make an important save.

“Barbados were unable to equalize, resulting in a 2-1 victory for Bermuda.”
