Bermuda Win Six Medals In Guadeloupe

Bermuda’s cycling team delivered outstanding performances at the Caribbean Road Cycling Championships in Guadeloupe winning a total of six medals, including a clean sweep of the Men’s Time Trial where Bermuda claimed all three medals.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Bicycle Association is thrilled to share the incredible performance of Bermuda’s elite cycling team at the Caribbean Road Cycling Championships in Guadeloupe.

“The championship’s first day brought the much-awaited time trial races, including both men’s and women’s categories. Our Bermudian cyclists showcased their impressive strength and skill, earning top spots on the podium and bringing immense pride to the entire team.

“The races commenced at 2:30 p.m. in Petit-Canal, with participants representing 19 nations from the Caribbean region.

Highlights from the Women’s Time Trial:

  1. Gabriella Arnold [Bermuda] secured the top spot with a time of 32 minutes, 56.64 seconds.
  2. Mary Erato [Sint Maarten] claimed the second position with a time of 33 minutes, 01.94 seconds.
  3. Séverine Ferdinand [Guadeloupe Selection] finished third, completing the course in 33 minutes, 05.73 seconds.

Clean Sweep in the Men’s Time Trial:

  1. Conor White [Bermuda] earned gold with a time of 27 minutes, 30.30 seconds.
  2. Kaden Hopkins [Bermuda] secured the silver medal with a time of 27 minutes, 41.39 seconds.
  3. Nicholas Narraway [Bermuda] clinched the bronze medal, completing the course in 27 minutes, 54.90 seconds.

“In the U23 category, Nicholas Narraway [Bermuda] won a second medal, achieving gold with the time of 27’54.90, 2 minutes faster than the next rider. The women’s U23 category saw Liana Medeiros securing the silver medal. Unfortunately Liam Flannery suffered a mechanical and was unable to finish his TT.”

Peter Dunne, the president of the Bermuda Bicycle Association, expressed his excitement, saying, “This was an incredibly thrilling day for our cyclists, the BBA, and Bermuda. These athletes have been with us since their teenage years, and it’s heartwarming to see them celebrate their success in our cycling-loving community. Watching their journeys from the beginning until now is awe-inspiring, and we can’t wait to see what more these talented athletes have in store.”

The spokesperson said, “All 6 cyclist will ride again in the highly anticipated road races scheduled for tomorrow, October 15, in Les Abymes. It will be a true test of endurance and skill for our dedicated athletes, especially in the face of the predicted intense heat. The day begins with a grueling 139 km race for the men, starting at 8 a.m. Following this, the women will compete in a demanding 69 km race starting at 12 p.m.
