In expressing gratitude regarding his recognition as a contributor to health and welfare of the region, he said: “I see myself as a honorary member of the Caribbean. I’m originally from Nigeria, but my lovely wife is in Bermuda and I ‘Brexited’ the UK last year to locate back to Bermuda.

“I’m a urological surgeon and prostate cancer is a big condition of cancer that is killing men across the Caribbean and beyond. Right now one in four men in this room, unfortunately, are going to be diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“When I arrived in Bermuda the rate of prostate cancer was very high and I wanted to do something personally about it.

“So, with my fantastic colleague, who’s here with me, Jade Robinson, we set up the first public prostate cancer screening clinic in Bermuda called The Daily Male.

“We screened over 200 men and diagnosed 10 over men with prostate cancer and especially men that have no insurance and no way of funding this.

“And my vision and our plan is to set up the Daily Male across the Caribbean, offering pre prostate cancer screening and diagnostics, giving fair and equal access to prostate cancer screening and high quality treatment for prostate cancer. Many thanks for this award.”

Ms Robinson expressed her thanks towards those gathered there along with awards committee for recognizing their accomplishments through these clinics, while aiming towards expanding further into Caribbean region through such initiatives like procuring a specially outfitted vehicle, providing mobile health services throughout Bermuda.”

“I’m feeling very nervous being up here and honoured to be in the room with such amazing people,” said Ms Robinson. “I’m a Caribbean girl from Bermuda and as a medical student training to contribute to making change in the world. I thank you for the opportunity to sit in the room with you all.”
