Gregory Grimes Tournament A Division Final: North Village Rams 2 [4] Dandy Town Hornets 2 [1]
The North Village Rams needed a penalty shootout to overcome the Dandy Town Hornets in an exhilarating seesaw battle in the A Division Final after the teams ended all square at 2-2 at the final whistle.
The match was free-flowing with both teams creating early chances. Amai Harvey put Dandy Town ahead in the 5th minute with the goal of the night, if not the tournament. Harvey collected the ball wide on the left side before dispatching a shot from outside the area which left the Village goalkeeper only able to watch as the ball found the top left corner of his net.
The North Village Rams continued to press and were rewarded with an equalizer through Chaz Edmead who outpaced the Dandy Town Hornets defense before slipping the ball past the Town goalkeeper.
Both teams through caution to the wind and attacked looking for the goal to unlock the tie. In the 30th minute Cameron Porter in the Village goal struggled to keep hold of a high ball into the box. Amari Bean was the first player to react to the loose ball and slot it into an empty net to give Dandy Town the lead heading into the break. Middway through the second half North Village earned a penalty after Kaiyuri Albouy was brought down after a mazy run into the area. Village captain Roman Wilkinson stepped up to confidently dispatch his spot kick to level things up.
Wilkinson was on hand late in the match to deny a Dandy Town forward a scoring opportunity after chasing him down after making up 15 yards and making a perfectly timed tackle as the Dandy Town player was ready to shoot.
That was the final real chance for either team to break the deadlock and the match headed to a dreaded shootout to find a winner. Porter turned out to be the hero for the champions saving Dandy Towns’ first three attempts while his teammates scored all of their spot kicks giving North Village their second consecutive Gregory Grimes Tournament title
