Coast Guard Assists Vessel In Great Sound
A person on a 13ft Boston Whaler on the Great Sound called 911 to report “they were taking on water and requested urgent assistance,” and the Coast Guard vessel Rescue 1 responded and towed the vessel to safety.
The Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre [BMOC] spokesperson said, “Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre received a 911 call from a solo sailor onboard a 13ft Boston Whaler located in Great Sound, reporting they were taking on water and requested urgent assistance.
“Bermuda Radio promptly tasked the RBR Coast Guard, and commenced urgent Marine VHF Pan-Pan Broadcasts, for any potential good Samaritans in the area that could assist.
“The Coast Guard vessel Rescue 1, arrived on scene at approximately 6:17am to the relief of the solo sailor and by 7:30am the vessel was reported safe back at Mills Creek, having been towed inshore by Rescue 1.”
