Flight Makes Emergency Landing At LF Wade

Emergency personnel responded to the airport after a flight — traveling from Barbados to the UK — “experienced severe turbulence, necessitating an emergency landing at LF Wade International Airport,” and eleven passengers were subsequently transported to the hospital, with the Ministry confirming that ”fortunately, all injuries sustained have been reported as minor.”

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of National Security can confirm that members of its uniformed services and emergency personnel provided support to several air passengers last night, following a commercial aircraft incident involving a flight destined for the UK.

“At approximately 12:50 a.m., Maleth Aero Flight 1975 [Airbus A300-200], en route from Barbados to Manchester experienced severe turbulence, necessitating an emergency landing at LF Wade International Airport.

“The aircraft executed a controlled landing on the Island. The flight was transporting 225 passengers and 13 crew members.

“Emergency Medical Technicians from the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service [BFRS] greeted the aircraft to provide initial assessments of the passengers and pre-hospital care.

“The response included nine BFRS vehicles, two King Edward Memorial Hospital VII ambulances and 20 BFRS personnel.

“Eleven passengers were subsequently transported to the Emergency Department at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by the BFRS for further medical evaluation and treatment.

“Fortunately, all injuries sustained have been reported as minor, and no individuals required hospital admission, at this juncture. Nine passengers have already been discharged.

“As a precautionary measure, the aircraft will remain grounded until a comprehensive inspection has been completed, ensuring the safety and integrity of the aircraft.”

Acting Minister of National Security Owen Darrell, expressed concern and relief regarding the incident, stating, “We are aware of the situation and are diligently working to ensure the well-being of all involved. We are extremely grateful for the quick response of all our emergency services personnel who ensured the safety of the passengers and crew.”

The Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of National Security is working collaboratively with relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident and provide necessary and relevant support to the passengers, crew, and airline officials. Further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.”
