Moving Govt Email Systems To The Cloud
The 2024 Budget funds the moving of the Government’s e-mail systems to the cloud “to ensure that in the event of any future attack the Government’s core e-mail system will still function,” Premier David Burt announced in the Budget yesterday [Feb 16].
The relevant extract of the 2024 Budget statement said, “One of the lessons from the cyber attack was that our on-premises systems cannot always be reliably maintained, especially when there is a lack of continuous infrastructure investment.
“This Budget also funds the moving of the Government’s e-mail systems to the cloud, with modern applications to ensure that in the event of any future attack, the Government’s core e-mail system will still function and we will be able to communicate. Artificial intelligence systems require that data be in the cloud and the increase in funding to IDT will commence that process this year.”

Government systems have been in the “cloud” for years – the smoke and mirrors cloud. The local ISP hosting Government systems is well known.
Mr. IT seems to not know that email systems are the gateway for hackers to get their foot in the door. Bringing down an email system is not the goal, entry into other systems via someone clicking on a link in an email, or downloading a file attached to an email is the goal. Bringing down the email system most likely was the end of the government hack used to distract and cover up how systems were penetrated. (misdirection)
Since Mr. IT refuses to provide any detailed information on the cyberattack, nothing much is going to change. If only we could invent a better government employee who would not click on a link in an email that says YOU WON!
Wait, AI! AI! AI can replace government employees!
