Tennis Team Set For ITF Cup In Santo Domingo
The Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association [BLTA] announced the tennis team set to represent Bermuda at the ITF Junior Davis Cup in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association is delighted to announce the talented boys 16 and under tennis team set to represent Bermuda at the upcoming ITF Junior Davis Cup in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The tournament is scheduled to take place February 25th to March 1st.
“Team roster consists of Zachary McGuire, Tristan Pettit, Tobiah Goodchild, and Terry Smith [coach].”
Coach Terry Smith said, “I am happy to work with such an enthusiastic team in preparation for this year’s event. Our objective is to perform at the very best to achieve the goals set for Tennis Bermuda, both on and off the court.”
BLTA President Michael Wolfe said, “It is pleasing to see these young men take the next step in their tennis journey. This is a big step up in competition, and the BLTA is looking forward to them representing Bermuda well. We certainly will be behind them 100% and wish them much success.”
The spokesperson said, “The team is scheduled to arrive in Santo Domingo on February 23rd, with the first match set to take place on February 25th at the Centro Nacional de Tenis Parque del Este. The tournament will feature eighteen different nations, including Cuba, Guatemala, Panama, Bermuda, and others. All teams will be housed at the Club Direccion General de Aduanas.
“Reflecting on Bermuda’s past achievements, the BLTA highlighted the team’s impressive showing in 2017, where Bermuda finished seventh out of 18 nations. The team consisted of Trey Mallory, Tariq Simons, and Scott Redmond.”
Ricky Mallory, the National Tennis Director, said, “To represent your country at this level is a testament to the training these boys have put in and the work they have done with their individual coaches, backed by the support of the National Governing body and National Program. We wish them all the best.”
The spokesperson said, “The BLTA encourages the community to rally behind the Bermuda boys tennis team as they embark on this remarkable journey to showcase their skills on the international stage.”
