Boxer Saundre “Dash” Simmons scored his third successive first-round stoppage win with a TKO over Mexican Victor Aceves in Tijuana yesterday [May 19].
Simmons dropped Aceves [2-7-2] twice in the opening stanza before the referee waved the fight off, handing the Bermudian his fourth straight victory since turning professional.
Dismantling his opponent calmly and clinically, Simmons sent Aceves to the canvas for the first time with a left hook to the body, then an overhand right to the head before the fight was stopped after he pummelled his 35-year-old opponent with a vicious chopping punch.
“He could box a bit, but I felt confident in there, and it flowed really well for me,” Simmons told Bernews.
The 26-year-old, fighting overseas for the first time, added: “The fight was in the back of a gritty little bar. I enjoyed every moment of it.”
Simmons has only completed one of the scheduled 16 rounds from his opening four contests, knocking out Marcell Sams Jr in the first round in Charlotte in March, beating Jayvone Dafney inside one round in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in February, and stopping Tre Baker in the second stanza in Charlotte in December last year.
“I want to fight again next month,” he added. “I’ve talked to my coach [Jesse Becerra] about needing more rounds.
“I know I need to work my way up the ladder and get rid of these guys first.”
Born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, Simmons was raised by his Bermudian parents in Somerset before moving to Asheville, North Carolina, with his mother when he was 12.
He enjoyed a successful amateur career, placing runner-up at the USA National Boxing Championships in Louisiana and the Golden Gloves of America in Oklahoma in 2021.
