Juniors Face Seniors In All-Star Game

The island’s top junior female basketball players gained valuable experience after pitting their skills against a team of the best senior women’s players at Somersfield Academy last week.
The Bermuda All-Star game featured Team Women’s Basketball Bermuda [WBB] against the High School Girls’ All-Stars, who included players from Saltus Grammer School, Somersfield Academy, Warwick Academy, Mount Saint Agnes Academy, and CedarBridge Academy.
Although the extra experience and know-how of the WBB players showed on the night, the high school team, coached by Shari Scott, is eager to test themselves again, with a rematch scheduled later this month.
The game was the brainchild of Aria Mosquera, 15, a Saltus student, who came up with the idea after playing in the recent Bermuda School Sports Federation Senior School Varsity Girls final, which Saltus won 19-9 against Somersfield Academy.
Leah Mosquera, Aria’s mother, said the purpose of the All-Star match was to “help ignite competitive play” among the high school girls.
“It was a nice community event and hopefully a nice refresh for girls’ basketball on the island,” Ms Mosquera told Bernews.
“Although the WBB enjoyed a big win, the high school team stepped away feeling strong competitiveness on the court.
“They built a team camaraderie connection and are now hungry for a rematch!
“The girls had team jitters in their first game against the highly competitive and seasoned women’s players, but the experience was phenomenal.”
