Bermuda footballer Reggie Lambe has taken his first step into coaching after joining AFC Sudbury Women’s backroom staff.
Lambe, a former AFC Sudbury player, will continue his playing career at Braintree Town after helping them win promotion to the Vanarama National League.
He scored the winner in their recent 4-3 triumph over Worthing in the National League South play-off final, heading home in the second half of extra time.
AFC Sudbury wrote on X today [June 4]: “Not being a club to stand still and with our trailblazing women’s section having their best season to date.
“It is time to add to our coaching staff – please welcome Reggie Lambe.
“Reggie brings a wealth of experience of playing at the highest level. With a keen eye for detail, Reggie’s style of coaching fits perfectly with our manager’s ethos and playing style.”
Lambe, 33, spent four months at AFC Sudbury as a player, helping the Suffolk outfit win promotion from the Isthmian League North Division via the play-off final in 2022-23.
“I’ve always had a soft spot for Sudbury, so I jumped at the chance when asked to become part of the team,” Lambe said.
“I’ve watched how the girls have grown over the last few seasons, so this is a fantastic opportunity for me to help drive things forward.”
Luke Mallett, the AFC Sudbury coach, added: “I watched with interest Reggie’s influence with Ipswich Vale last season, and it was a no-brainer for me.”
There is already a Bermuda connection at AFC Sudbury Women, with Eva Frazzoni, the women’s national team captain, playing for them as a midfielder.
Lambe, an attacking midfielder, will miss Bermuda’s Concacaf World Cup qualifiers against Antigua and Barbuda [tomorrow, June 5] and Honduras on Sunday as they clash with his Uefa A licence coaching course.
