Video: Dolphins Join Two Bermuda Race Sailboats
The journey to and from Bermuda came with a spectacular marine escort for sailors in two separate ocean racing moments, as dolphins swam alongside both the Spirit of Bermuda and Time Machine.
In one encounter, dolphins swam alongside the Spirit of Bermuda as the vessel made its way to Newport to take part in the 2026 Newport Bermuda Race, adding a memorable ocean moment to the vessel’s journey.
In a second encounter, dolphins were seen alongside Time Machine as the yacht competed in the Annapolis to Bermuda Race, with the vessel going on to win line honors in the 753-nautical-mile race, crossing the finish line in time of 3 days and 20 hours.
The footage from Spirit of Bermuda was filmed by Charlie Swan, who told Bernews they had seen a sailfish, distant dolphins, a whale — also in the distance — and a shark over the previous few days.
“We just happened upon this pod — or it may have been two pods,” Mr Swan said. “They approached Spirit from both sides and stayed with us for quite a while before leaving.”
