BCB Hosts 2024 Howzat Cricket Summer Camp
Over 100 young cricketers took the chance to improve their cricketing skills at the Bermuda Cricket Board’s Howzat Cricket summer camp this year.
A spokesperson said, “National and international players and coaches hosted girls and boys aged 7-13 for three weeks in July at three locations across Bermuda. The program forms just one part of the BCB’s work to create and enhance youth cricket skills, promote good sporting behavior, and foster players’ enjoyment for the game.
“The full-day camp teaches the fundamental skills of cricket and enhances understanding of important attributes including the rules of the game, good technique, conditioning, sport-specific knowledge, responsibility, effort, respect, teamwork, and the importance of good sportsmanship through the “spirit of cricket”.
“Across the week players take part in skills, drills, classroom learning, and match play through multiple different cricket formats. Players learn practices on all elements of the game through quality coaching and have several opportunities for competitive game experiences playing other cricket camps on island.
“This year the pilot of Camp Connect with the Department of Sport and Recreation offered youth players the opportunity to have training sessions with West Indies cricket player Brittany Cooper and former Test player Ryan Austin. The BCB would like to thank CG Insurance for their sponsorship, and aid in bringing the Cricket West Indies players to Bermuda.
“Players also benefitted from coaching by Damon Edwards, National team captain Delray Rawlins, former National team player Kamau Leverock, National team manager Courtney Trott, and the Bermuda U19 players.”
The BCB Vice President Kellie Smith said, “Our goal is to build on the love of cricket in Bermuda, develop skills, and provide playing opportunities in an enjoyable, educational environment, supported by experienced coaches. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers, coaches, and sponsors for their help in supporting the next generation of Bermuda cricket.”
