Clarien’s Summer Interns Make Notable Impact
Clarien’s new interns, Maya Dean, Chelsea Correira, and David Goonewardene, made a “significant impact” this summer with their fresh ideas, the company said.
A spokesperson said, “As we embrace the final weeks of summer, Clarien is proud to introduce our latest team members—interns Maya Dean, Chelsea Correira, and David Goonewardene—who have spent the past few weeks and months making a significant impact with their fresh ideas and vibrant energies. As they continue to carve out their future career directions at Clarien Bank, we asked them to share more about their roles and development so far.”
Maya Dean – A Fresh Force in Private Banking
Ms Dean brimmed with enthusiasm when discussing her recent 8-week journey at Clarien, which ended last Friday [August 16]. “The most valuable thing I’ve learned is to trust God in my career plans and make the most of each opportunity. The internship granted me an abundance of knowledge and skills, especially in risk management, investments, and Microsoft software,” she shared. Her experience was comprehensive, covering various facets of the financial industry and enhancing her problem-solving and relational skills. Ms Dean described her role as “dynamic,” filled with continuous learning opportunities, and appreciated being part of a team that invested in local talent.
Chelsea Carreiro & David Goonewardene – Redefining Personal Banking
Ms Carreiro found her learning curve steep but incredibly rewarding. “I am learning about the vast range of financial products and services Clarien offers, which are instrumental in wealth generation,” she explained. Her role, which will continue until December, has allowed her to handle challenging scenarios and craft personalized solutions for clients, providing a deep dive into regulatory frameworks like Money Laundering Reporting [MLRO] and Financial Crime Compliance [FCC] guidelines.
Mr Goonewardene noted the adaptability required in his role, which has been both a challenge and an excitement. The supportive team environment has been a significant highlight for him. “I’ve grown to look up to my colleagues in Personal Banking,” he admitted, underscoring the importance of mentorship and team dynamics in his personal and professional development.
Future Plans Shaped by Current Experiences
The spokesperson said, “When asked about how this internship might influence their career choices, all three interns provided insightful responses. Maya said she is now determined to pursue a master’s degree in a field that combines her love for finance and mathematics. Chelsea, having never previously considered a career in banking, now finds herself keen on exploring this industry further. Meanwhile, David’s experience at Clarien has rekindled his love for personal hobbies and confirmed his interest in the banking sector, a field he was initially hesitant about.”
“This opportunity has helped me to rediscover my passion and consider future opportunities in this space,” he reflected.
Final Thoughts
The spokesperson said, “As we move further into the summer, Maya, Chelsea, and David have demonstrated they’re much more than learners in the finance realm—they’re also playing a meaningful role at Clarien.”
Jenn Wild, Clarien’s SVP, Head of Human Resources, stated, “Having Maya, Chelsea, and David on our team has reaffirmed how much young talent can bring a dynamic infusion of new ideas and energy to traditional sectors. Clarien has worked to support their progress, and we look forward to seeing how they will all continue to delve deeper into their chosen fields, gaining knowledge and experience.” She added: “At Clarien, our role isn’t just to watch the future unfold but to participate in shaping it.”
