Potential TC Five “Not A Threat At This Time”
Potential Tropical Cyclone Five is “not a threat to Bermuda at this time”, the Bermuda Weather Service said, with its closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs [3 days] forecast to be 723 nm to the south at 6pm on Wed, Aug 14th, with the BWS noting “this system may move closer to Bermuda after this time period depending upon its track.”
The BWS noted, “NHC has updated the potential development area, now designated Potential Tropical Cyclone (PTC) Five. A Tropical Update Bulletin has therefore been issued, although it is not considered a threat to Bermuda within 3-5 days at this time. We continue to monitor the development of PTC Five as it moves towards our area.”
“The latest forecast from the U.S. National Hurricane Center said, “At 500 PM AST [2100 UTC], the disturbance was centered near latitude 13.6 North, longitude 48.0 West. The system is moving toward the west-northwest near 21 mph [33 km/h] and this motion is expected to continue during the next couple of days. On the forecast track, the disturbance is expected to move across portions of the Leeward Islands on Tuesday and approach the U.S. and British Virgin Islands Tuesday night.

“Maximum sustained winds are near 30 mph [45 km/h] with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast, and the system is expected to become a tropical storm by late Monday.”
