Premier Attends Blockchain Symposium
Premier David Burt departed Bermuda yesterday to participate in the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium after postponing his travel to support recovery coordination following Hurricane Ernesto.
A Government spokesperson said, “This digital finance conference will take place from August 19 to 21, 2024, and was launched through a partnership between global investment platform SALT, Kraken, a leading digital asset exchange, and the University of Wyoming Center for Blockchain and Digital Innovation.
“The invitation-only event will bring together 250 leading policymakers, investors, and innovators in the digital asset industry. The Premier’s attendance follows a direct invitation from the CEO of SALT, and the event hosts will cover the cost of his stay.
“On Day Three of the symposium, Premier Burt will engage in a featured discussion entitled ‘Digital Assets in Bermuda: A Conversation with Premier David Burt,’ where he will share insights into Bermuda’s progressive approach to digital finance regulation.
“The Premier will also meet with industry leaders and lawmakers, including United States Senator Cynthia Lummis.”
“Bermuda has long been at the forefront of innovation in digital finance, and our commitment to sound regulation has made us a trusted jurisdiction for high-quality global businesses,” said Premier Burt.
“Our presence at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium will allow us to reinforce Bermuda’s role in shaping the future of digital finance. Previous engagements have successfully attracted industry leaders like Coinbase and XBTO to our ecosystem, providing jobs, economic diversification, and demonstrating confidence in what Bermuda offers.
“This visit also continues the collaborative relationship between Bermuda and the state of Wyoming in the digital asset sector. In 2021, the Bermuda Monetary Authority [BMA] and the Wyoming Division of Banking [WDOB] established a Digital Assets Memorandum of Understanding [MoU], creating a regulatory bridge between our jurisdictions.”
The Government spokesperson said, “The Premier will depart Wyoming on August 22nd and return to Bermuda on August 23.”
You gotta wonder how much of our taxpayers money was spent on frivolous private travel expenses for this one ????
Another wasted trip
Wyoming – now there’s a mainstream destination! Hopefully they have all the services Burt insists on his travels; 5 star hotels, limos and first class air travel. Am sure Burt had one of his minions look into the travel details as he is a ‘savvy’ traveller.
Off on a taxpayer funded junket to Wyoming this time is he. Most Bermudians would have problems even finding Wyoming without the help of Google.
Beautiful state, wonderful people BTW. I’m sure he has taken the family. Great attractions there. Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, maybe catch a rodeo.
Fun, fun, fun.
It will be tough to find a limo to sport around in. The pickup truck is king out there. Those ill fitting suits will really stand out too.
“Bermuda has long been at the forefront of innovation in digital finance, and our commitment to sound regulation has made us a trusted jurisdiction for high-quality global businesses,” said Premier Burt.
Really? Then why are those companies going under/and or not renewing their business licenses? Where are the employees based? (trick question)
More wasted taxpayer money but I hear that Colorado is lovely this time of year.
Off to Wyoming, Yahoooo!!!
He can do this because he knows the pathetic oba with the H will remain a clown face party.
There might be another reason. Wyoming is the least populated state by geographical area (people per square mile) but had nearly 600,000 companies and partnerships registered last year. Very few of those businesses carry on activity in Wyoming.
Obviously some people didn’t read and they love to make everything political. The cost of his trip is covered by the organizers…geez…
Why waste taxpayers money on another wasted trip. You could have used 1/4 of that money to buy suits that actually fit you
