Rudo & Edwards Earn Butterfield Scholarships

Chiaje Rudo and Ramaya Edwards have been awarded scholarships by Butterfield, receiving a combined $55,000 between them for the upcoming academic year.

A spokesperson said, “Butterfield has awarded its annual scholarships to five promising students, including two talented Bermudians, Chiaje Rudo and Ramaya Edwards, who will receive a combined $55,000 between them for the upcoming academic year. These scholarships can be maintained for up to four academic years.

“Chiaje Rudo has been awarded the Sir Harry D. Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship. Offered since 1978, this scholarship honours Butterfield’s late Chairman, Sir Harry D. Butterfield and grants this year’s recipient $30,000 per year towards her studies of Psychology at the University of Western Ontario.

“A student of The Berkeley Institute and Bermuda College, Ms Rudo aspires to become a Child Psychologist to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others, particularly in the lives of children and their families, and to make a positive impact in the community.

“Dedicated to giving back, Ms Rudo has supported and volunteered at a number of charitable organisations and, in her down time, plays netball and football for The Berkeley Institute and Dandy Stars. In addition, she has represented Bermuda in track and field at the Caribbean Union of Teachers Games in 2018.

“Ramaya Edwards received the Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship for Employees’ Children [Atlantic], one of three regional scholarships available to Butterfield employees who are parents or guardians of a student pursuing post-secondary education.

“Ms Edwards has been awarded $25,000 per academic year towards her studies of Biochemistry at Dalhousie University. Ms Edwards is the co-president of the Black Student Support Association, where she advocates for a safe and inclusive space for students, and is an active member of her church youth group. She is passionate about helping people, from assisting with events for local charities, as well as being a volunteer cook for children and parents at IWK hospital.
