BFCA Pay Tribute To Leroy ‘Nibs’ Lewis
The Bermuda Football Coaches Association [BFCA] paid tribute to the late Leroy “Nibs” Lewis, calling him a “champion on and off the field.”
A spokesperson said, “They said it couldn’t be done. They said that it had been tried in the past but it failed. They said that the group was too splintered and tribal. They said, why waste the effort. They were wrong and a small group of ex-football players at the club and National level, who also happened to be ex-football administrators at the club and national level, who happened to be coaches, mostly ex-coaches at the club and national level, set out to do it anyway. That was in 2013 and after only 2 months the constitution was created along with a Strategic & Business plan and the Bermuda Football Coaches Association [BFCA] was formed.
“A key member of that group was Leroy ‘Nibs’ Lewis, a man who didn’t know the meaning of quit. He was a highly successful coach and a fantastic player. He was a powerful leader and club administrator and a champion on and and off the field. He was a driving force behind the formation of this BFCA and its biggest cheerleader. He was an amazing man.
“Sadly, Leroy passed away a few weeks ago and he will be missed by so many from all walks of life. He will be missed by the football community and that includes those that sat closely with him to create the BFCA. The BFCA will stage its second Speaker’s Night at Pier 6 featuring Les Ferdinand on November 9th and it’s first annual Golf Tournament the following day at the Belmont Hills Golf Course.
“The BFCA will move forward with their plans on November 9th and 10th, and will do so with the knowledge that Leroy is cheering in the background. His presence will be felt and his memory will live on.”
