Female Sports Administrators Recognised
Twelve of the island’s top female sports administrators were honoured at the Bermuda Olympic Association’s Women in Sports Leadership [WISL] Awards on Sunday [November 10].
Judy Simons, the former BOA president who died in January aged 71, was among those recognised at the ceremony organised by the BOA’s Gender Diversity & Inclusion Committee at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
Last month, Simons was also posthumously honoured with the Caribbean Distinguished Service Award at the inaugural CANOC Sports Awards in Turks & Caicos.
Simons was among six women nominated by the BOA’s Gender Diversity & Inclusion Committee for WISL awards.
The others were Margret Heyliger [swimming], Katura Horton-Perinchief [diving], Heidi Mello [equestrian], Donna Raynor [athletics], and Branwen Smith-King [all sports].
Nominated by their National Sport Governing Bodies were Patty Petty [triathlon], Jaime Masters McDowell [equestrian], Latonia Fray [hockey], Shona Palmer [swimming], Shequita Parsons [football] and Leatrice Oatley [sailing].
