Hollis & Wheaton Advance To Quarter-Finals
Wheaton College’s women’s tennis team, featuring Bermudian player Asia Hollis, made a strong showing at the New England women’s intercollegiate tennis tournament [NEWITT] hosted by Smith College. All three of Wheaton’s doubles pairings advanced to the quarter-finals.
Hollis and her sophomore teammate Laila Haraj-Sai, competing in the “C” draw, secured their spot in the quarter-finals with a hard-fought victory.
The duo first teamed up to defeat the Smith College pairing of junior Dayana Caluna and freshman Alexa Konstantopoulous 8-6 in doubles action.
Hollis then clinched the win for Wheaton with a gutsy performance in singles, overcoming a first-set loss to defeat Caluna 3-6, 6-2, 10-3.
