Six New Candidates Unveiled, 94 Total Now

January 30, 2025 | 0 Comments

Today was another busy day in election news, with four press conferences and six new political candidates unveiled including two former Cabinet Ministers, making a total of 94 candidates so far spanning the three political parties and independents.

The first press conference of the day was an announcement from independent candidates Vic Ball and Mstira Weeks who will be running in Constituency #20 Pembroke South West and Constituency #12 Devonshire South Central, making a total of 17 independent candidates announced as of this time.

The second press conference was with the FDM, who announced Kyle Bridgewater in C14, Quinton Sherlock in C2 and FDM Leader Marc Bean in C32.

Mr Bean — a former PLP MP and Minister — will be running in C32 Southampton West, which is currently held by the PLP’s Scott Simmons who will stand for re-election, and will also be contested by the OBA’s Kellan Lewis.

Quinton Sherlock Jr will be running in C2 St. George’s West which is currently held by the PLP’s Kim Swan and will contested by Mr Swan, the OBA’s Thomas Harvey and independent Tiffany Paynter.

Kyle Bridgewater will be running in C14 Devonshire North West which is currently held by the PLP’s Wayne Caines and will contested by the PLP’s Alexa Lightbourne, the OBA’s David Rogers and independent Noelle Young.

The OBA also held a press conference today, where they announced that their candidate for Constituency 20 Pembroke South West is Michael Fahy, which marks a return to politics for Mr Fahy, who previously served as an OBA Senator and Minister.

C20, which is currently held by the OBA’s Susan Jackson, is a seat many political watchers have been keeping an eye on to see who the OBA candidate will be, as the OBA have won the seat with over 78% of the vote in the last three elections.

The final press conference of the day was held by the PLP and it did not end on the smoothest note, with the two MPs leaving as one reporter was still trying to pose questions, which Minister Owen Darrell subsequently apologised for.

Assuming there will be no changes of candidates and everyone listed will run, which may not be an accurate assumption, the OBA have 2 candidates left to announce to make a full 36 – C13 and C33 and the PLP have 3 candidates left to announce: C8, C12 and C22, all seats currently held by OBA.

The FDM currently have have 10 candidates and said to expect more tomorrow, and so far 17 people confirmed that they will run as independents.

As it stands now, there are 94 candidates, and how many is unclear, but there will be more candidates rolled out on nomination day, which will be held tomorrow [Jan 31].

The full list of candidates will not actually be fully confirmed until tomorrow following Nomination Day.
