Under the theme “It All Comes Down to Love,” a free celebration at the Bermuda College Student Centre on Friday [Feb 21], will honour two significant milestones: the 190th anniversary of the liberation of enslaved individuals from The Enterprise and the enduring legacy of Malcolm X.
An Imagine Bermuda spokesperson said, “Under the theme It All Comes Down to Love, we are Celebrating in appreciation of two milestones of our Island’s shared legacies. This Free Celebration – will take place at the Student Centre of the Bermuda College on Friday, February 21st from 6 – 8 pm.
“One milestone is the 190th Anniversary of the Liberation of 70 – odd enslaved men, women and mostly children; storm swept to Bermuda on the American Ship ‘The Enterprise’. Only having recently experiencing Emancipation; local took action in the Supreme Court to secure that Freedom, with the collaborative assistance of the local legal fraternity.
“The ‘Enterprise Story’ demonstrating an example of ‘out-of the box’ acts of Solidarity.
“We will also be Celebrating the Life of Malcolm X who had to overcome a variety of challenges to become a Guiding Light of global transformation, before a brutal ‘ending’ in Harlem. However, while his life ended, his Spirit lives across the Globe.
“The Gathering begins at 6 pm at the Student Centre with a lightly dramatic presentation of the ‘Enterprise Story’ by Rajae Denbrook who will subsequently be joined for an interactive Dialogue by [Justice] Juan Wolffe & Marcelo Ramella – Visiting Fellow of London School of Economics. This dialogue will be an invitational one – for all Gathered.
“The second hour will include music from various artists including: Gene Steede, Rickeesha Binns, ‘Live Wire’ & others.
“This is available freely to all attending through the solidarity and collaborative spirit of the Bermuda College and grassroots activist including Imagine Bermuda.”
