Premier Meets With Pilot Remy Donawa

17-year-old Remy Donawa — who recently earned his private pilot’s license – recently met with Premier David Burt and MP Lawrence Scott.

A Government spokesperson said, “Seventeen-year-old Remy Donawa, an aspiring airline pilot, recently achieved a significant milestone by earning his private pilot’s license last summer, making him one of the youngest Bermudians to do so.

“This fall, Remy will attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Science.

“As part of his studies, he will complete additional flight certifications required to become an airline transport pilot.

“Recognising his dedication and ambition, the Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, invited Remy and his mother, Rona Donawa, to the Cabinet Office to hear more from Remy about his aspirations.

“They were joined by MP Lawrence Scott, who is also a licensed pilot and the Chair of the Bermuda Airport Authority.

“The Premier, MP Scott, and Remy share a deep passion for aviation. Premier Burt has been flying since age 11 [1991] and MP Scott since age 14 [1994]. Remarkably, all three earned their private pilot’s license at age 17.”

Premier Burt said, “I am pleased to extend congratulations to Remy on this significant accomplishment. I look forward to him taking me up in a plane one day.”

The spokesperson said, “And MP Scott echoed the Premier’s sentiments, commending Remy on his dedication and wishing him success in his aviation journey.

“As a passionate advocate for aspiring pilots, Remy highlighted the need for the government to prioritize and expand scholarship opportunities for Bermudians pursuing careers in aviation. He stated that increased financial support would open doors for more young Bermudians to enter the aviation industry.

“MP Scott, Chairman of the Bermuda Airport Authority, acknowledged the importance of such initiatives and shared that the authority is currently exploring opportunities to enhance support for Bermudians in the aviation sector.

“Remy is excited about his future in aviation and hopes to inspire other young Bermudians to pursue careers in the field, reinforcing the message that, ‘Aviation from Bermuda is possible.’”
