Scott Barnes On Stars Series Round One

Karting driver Scott Barnes experienced mixed fortunes in round one of the Stars Championship Series – Queen Gambit City – at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina at the weekend.

Barnes, competing in the Pro Shifter Masters KZ class, came fourth in the qualifying on Saturday [April 12], setting the fastest lap, before placing second in heat one and fourth in heat two.

In the pre-final yesterday, Barnes was victories but was disqualified for his kart being too light.

“Pushed across the scales and was 1lb light after being 4/5lbs heavy all weekend,” Barnes wrote on social media.

“In almost 30 years of racing, I’ve only ever DQ’ed for being light twice, and both were in US after big wins by 5lb and 1lb.”

Despite having to start last in the final, Barnes climbed up to fifth position before being forced out of the race because of a collision.

“Got a great start and was up to fifth by lap three; saw the hole to make a pass on fourth and took it, and it didn’t work, hole closed fast, and we were done,” Barnes added.

“Definitely should have been a little more patient as we had the kart to get back to an easy second, maybe the win but went a little too aggressive too soon.

“Live and learn. We showed we were the kart to beat today, just some bad luck. Learn from it and onto the next one next month.”

Round two will be the King of the Castle, in New Castle, Indiana, from June 6 to 8.

Barnes, who races for Maranello Karts USA, is sponsored by Butterfield & Vallis, representing their Powerade brand, and All Rise Limited.
