Field Hockey: Puerto Rico Defeat Bermuda
Bermuda’s Women’s National Field Hockey team faced Puerto Rico in a pivotal match in their Central American and Caribbean [CAC] Games Qualifying Tournament. Despite a strong effort, Bermuda fell to Puerto Rico 2-1 following a late penalty.
Puerto Rico took an early lead in the fourth minute when Maria Pianetti scored a field goal from close range.
Bermuda responded in the second quarter. In the 23rd minute, Elizabeth Stewart assisted Jessica Hollis, who converted a penalty corner to level the score.
The third period remained scoreless as both teams battled for an advantage.
The decisive moment came in the 59th minute. Puerto Rico was awarded a penalty which Alexis Morales converted, securing the 2-1 victory.
Bermuda’s starting lineup included Christina Stephens-Weser, Alyssa DeSilva, Elizabeth Stewart, Grace Lightowler, Mackenzie Heaney, Jessica Hollis, Chrysda Smith, Jennifer Chisnall, Cindi Davis, Elizabeth Davidson, and Amber McHugh. Substitutes were Georgia Harris, Robin Stempel, Megan Troake, Abigail Brewer, and Zaynab Brown.
Puerto Rico’s starting lineup featured Anyia Woods, Lyneishka Leon, Maria Pianetti, Andrielys Lopez, Alexis Morales, Antonina Aponte, Sheila Vazquez, Carina Ramirez, Nadia Briddell, Zoe Norton, and Abigail Johnson. Substitutes included Sophia Prianti, Tabatha Aponte, Tyra Cream, Nilvia Vazquez, and Jade Salas.
