Ice hockey player Blake Montgomery and the London Knights have claimed the Ontario Hockey League title after defeating the Oshawa Generals 5-2 at home in Game 5 yesterday [May 16].

For the Knights, the win secured their straight second J. Ross Robertson Cup.

“They really pulled for each other the whole year,” London coach Dale Hunter told the London Free Press.

“Throughout the season and play-offs, we had guys missing and the next guy steps up and plays. That’s how you have winning teams.

“It was easy because they enjoy the game. We would skate and work, but they had lots of fun doing it, too.”

Montgomery joined the Knights on an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement in November last year.

Drafted by National Hockey League team the Ottawa Senators in June last year, Montgomery spent the previous two seasons with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL.

The Knights finished top of the Western Conference, having won 55 of their 66 regular season matches.
