The Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race, Bermuda’s top cycling event, kicks off Bermuda Day on Friday, May 23, with riders racing from St. George’s to Hamilton.

A spokesperson said, “The excitement of Bermuda Day begins on two wheels this Friday, May 23, with the return of the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race [SPMR]—Bermuda’s premier road cycling event and a highlight of the island’s national holiday celebrations.

“The race kicks off at 8:20 AM sharp, with top male and female riders launching from St. George’s, while youth competitors in the SPMR Youth Classic start just east of the Arboretum. All riders will race west through Bermuda’s eastern corridor, converging at the high-energy finish on Cedar Avenue, near Mount Saint Agnes Academy. The first finisher is expected around 8:48 AM, with the prize presentation to follow at approximately 9:00 AM.”

“We invite the public to come out early, claim your spot along the route, and cheer on Bermuda’s cyclists as they fly past,” said Debbie Titterton Narraway, Event Director. “It’s the perfect way to start Bermuda Day—filled with speed, excitement, and community spirit.”

Road Closures & Public Notice

The spokesperson said, “All roads along the race course will close at 7:30 AM. Spectators and residents are urged to be in position before this time to avoid delays. The SPMR will conclude ahead of the Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby, making it the perfect opening act for a full day of celebration.

Cyclist Registration Reminder

“Riders still hoping to participate must register by 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 21. All registered cyclists must collect their timing chips on Thursday, May 22, between 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Pickup instructions will be emailed to all registrants.

“The SPMR features men’s, women’s, and junior categories, as well as a Youth Classic for riders aged 14 and under. The race honours the legacy of the late Sinclair Packwood, an elite Bermudian cyclist, and has been a treasured part of Bermuda Day festivities since 1987.

“So come out, wave your flags, and celebrate Bermuda Day with speed, spirit, and tradition!”
