Aaliyah Nolan has been presented with a framed AFC Bradford Women’s shirt in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the club over two seasons.

The Bermuda women’s national team striker, who recently announced her retirement at the age of 27 due to a persistent knee condition, scored an impressive 23 goals in 34 appearances for Bradford, who play in the North East Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division.

Nolan, who netted ten goals last term, received the commemorative shirt during the club’s end-of-season awards ceremony at the weekend.

“Last night we presented Aaliyah with a framed shirt to celebrate her retirement and her time at the club,” AFC Bradford Women shared on social media.

“Everyone at the club would like to wish Aaliyah all the very best for the future — you will always be welcome back.”

A former Leeds United Women’s player, Nolan spoke to Bernews last month about the difficult decision to hang up her boots.

“It’s been a hard decision,” she said. “It’s not something I wanted to do, but I’ve had to do it for my long-term health.

“I’ve had a knee issue for two years and had to decide whether to stop playing or keep managing it.

“It still feels unreal knowing I won’t be preparing for next season. However, I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved in the game.”
