Andre Lambe believes he has the perfect stage to showcase his talents when he faces American Kendo Castaneda for the vacant American Boxing Organisation [ABO] regional welterweight title on Saturday [June 14] in Galveston, Texas.

Lambe [12-0] meets Castaneda [21-9] in an eight-round contest at the Galveston Island Convention Centre and expect his opponent to pose the toughest test of his career.

Castaneda, ranked 87th in the United States welterweight division, last fought in March, losing by technical knockout to Olympian Delante Johnson in Las Vegas.

Known for his aggressive, forward-pressing Mexican style, Castaneda is expected to bring relentless pressure – a challenge Lambe says he is ready for.

“It’s my biggest fight against a notable opponent,” Lambe told Bernews. “I’m excited for the most part.

“He’s a smart, strong fighter – a classic Mexican type of fighter. He’s coming to win and has experience against some top opponents.

“It should be a great opportunity for me to show my skills.”

Since debuting in January 2020 at the Fairmont Southampton, the southpaw has built an unblemished record and is proud of his progress.

“I’m glad all the hard work is paying off,” said Lambe, who arrived in Galveston on Sunday.

“I’m gaining fans out here who want to watch me; it’s a good feeling.

“Things couldn’t have happened any better for me so far. I’ve fought some capable opponents and been tested a few times.

“I feel like things are getting off the ground.”

Lambe’s trainer, Varo Pelon Andrade, hails from Galveston, with support expected from friends, former American football team-mates, and members of the local Bermudian community living in Texas.

“I’d have so much community support from my recent golf fundraiser at Port Royal Golf Course and the potluck dinner at the Ex-Artillery Association,” added Lambe, who has vacated the six-round version of his ABO regional title.

Lambe is sponsored by Game On, Reference Point Coaching, Bermy Supplements, Pioneer Consulting, Essentia Water, Burrows Plumbing, and Fiyah Marshall.
