WiRe Honours Carmen DeSilva & Julia Mather
WiRe Bermuda extended its thanks to founding members Carmen DeSilva and Julia Mather for their leadership, dedication, and lasting contributions to the organization.
A spokesperson said, “WiRe Bermuda extends heartfelt gratitude to founding members Carmen DeSilva and Julia Mather as they conclude their service on the board. Since helping to incorporate WiRe in 2008, their dedication and leadership have been vital to the organization’s growth and influence in supporting women in Bermuda’s reinsurance industry.

“Carmen DeSilva, Vice President, Treaty Specialty Underwriter at QBE Re, possesses over 20 years of expertise in underwriting, strategic management, and financial reporting. Her deep knowledge of reinsurance program development spans multiple business lines. Beyond her professional achievements, Carmen actively leads the Cooking for Life program with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda, fostering community engagement and mentorship.”
Peta White, Chairwoman of WiRe Bermuda said: “Carmen’s dedication to mentorship and collaboration has provided invaluable support and guidance to emerging female professionals. Her efforts to build connections and share knowledge have contributed significantly to Bermuda’s reputation in the reinsurance sector.”
The spokesperson said, “Julia Mather, Director at Falcon Insurance PCC Limited, brings over 25 years of expertise in insurance and reinsurance, focusing on strategic management, underwriting, and market development. Her contributions include a decade-long directorship at Falcon Insurance and a 12-year tenure as Head of Miller Bermuda. Julia has actively supported WiRe’s mission through her volunteer work, including leading educational tours with Bermuda’s Under 40s and serving on various industry committees. Her recognition in Bermuda includes awards from the IDC and Centre of Philanthropy for her community contributions.”
