Multiple People Arrested For Bladed Articles
“Over the last few days, police officers have arrested a number of individuals for possession of bladed articles,” the police said.
A police spokesperson said, “Around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, 15th July 2025, officers were engaged in stop and search checks along Middle Road, Sandys.
“During the operation, a 28-year-old male motorcycle rider was stopped and his vehicle searched. Officers retrieved a knife from under the bike seat. He was subsequently arrested for possession of a bladed article and further detained on warrants.
“Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Monday, 14th July 2025, police officers were on mobile patrol in the area of North Street, Pembroke, when they observed two persons travelling on a motorcycle. The pillion passenger was not wearing a helmet.
“Officers attempted to stop the motorcycle. However, the rider refused to do so. The passenger eventually dismounted the motorcycle and was searched by officers.
“The subject was found to be in possession of a knife, as well as a quantity of suspected controlled drugs.
“He was arrested and conveyed to Hamilton Police Station, where he was detained. He has since been released on police bailed and will appear before the courts in due course.
“On Sunday, 13th July 2025, police received a report of a disturbance at Southampton Rangers, Southampton. A description was provided of a vehicle leaving the area, with occupants suspected to have been involved in the disturbance.
“Officers located and stopped the vehicle on Middle Road, Paget. During an ensuing search, one of the occupants was found to be in possession of a knife. He was subsequently arrested.”
Antoine Daniels, Assistant Commissioner of Police [Crime] stated, “A number of these arrests were in accordance with section 315F of the Criminal Code Act 1907, which gives police officers the authority to stop and search people, as well as vehicles, for offensive weapons – particularly, in anticipation of violence. We acknowledge some in the community have ongoing concerns about this section of legislation. However its use, as stipulated, continues to assist the Bermuda Police Service in disrupting individuals who may have intended on causing harm to others, using weapons.
“I wish to remind the public that going armed in public is not only an offence, but it greatly increases the chances of the person carrying knives and other similar items being seriously injured, or worse. We thank you for your continued support in providing us information on individuals seen carrying weapons, or acting in a suspicious manner. Your assistance is making a real difference.
