The Hamilton Parish Council has presented scholarship awards to students Malaysia Roberts, Justin Bascome-Dickinson, Tcherari [Ari] Kamara, and Zyare Outerbridge.

A spokesperson said, “The Hamilton Parish Council was very pleased to once again be able to provide scholarships to four excellent students, thanks in part to a generous grant from the Lyceum Trust. Following receipt of applications from several students, seven were shortlisted for interviews which were held in early July.

“Applicants are required to be residents of the parish who have completed their Freshman year at college. They are also asked to submit ideas about ways to give back to the parish.

“Committee members enjoyed meeting all the applicants and learning of their goals for the future. Financial need, academic achievement, community service, extracurricular activities, etc. all are carefully considered, and the committee found the applicants to be very impressive.

“It was difficult to decide on the successful candidates but, after careful consideration, the Committee agreed that Malaysia Roberts, Justin Bascome-Dickinson and Tcherari [Ari] Kamara were the top choices, and an incentive award was presented to a fourth student, Zyare Outerbridge.

“Malaysia, a Berkeley graduate, is studying Social Work at Barry University. Justin, who attended Bermuda Institute, is studying Architecture at the University of Central Lancashire and Ari, a home school student, is studying Visual Arts at the University of Kent. Zyare, also a Berkeley Institute graduate, is studying Sports at the Royal National College for the Blind.

“The Committee wishes all the students well in their academic endeavours and looks forward to hearing of their progress during the course of the year.
