WISTA Bermuda Visits Norwegian Aqua
“WISTA Bermuda, a chapter of the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association [WISTA], was welcomed aboard Norwegian Aqua, Norwegian Cruise Line’s [NCL] newest vessel, during her inaugural season
A spokesperson said, “The visit was timed to coincide with World Maritime Day 2025, marking a moment of maritime fellowship and commitment to thoughtful progress, principled leadership and international reach.
“Norwegian Aqua, launched in April 2025, is the first vessel in NCL’s Prima Plus Class. With capacity for over 3,500 guests, she sets a new benchmark in cruise ship design and environmental performance, featuring the world’s first Aqua Slidecoaster and a vibrant hull design by NCL’s first major female hull artist. In 2026, Norwegian Aqua will serve as NCL’s flagship for Bermuda itineraries, sailing weekly from New York City to the Royal Naval Dockyard.

“WISTA members were afforded a rare behind-the-scenes look at ship operations and the privilege of an exclusive tour of the bridge, where they engaged directly with the vessel’s female senior leadership. WISTA Bermuda was warmly received by fellow WISTA member and Environmental Officer Alyssa Adams [USA], Safety Officer Elin Nordlund [Sweden] and Second Officer Luana Mancini [Italy].”
Cheryl Hayward Chew, President of WISTA Bermuda, remarked: “The presence of senior female officers on the bridge was an affirmation of the advances being made across the maritime sector – advances that are closely aligned with WISTA’s global mission to build resilient networks and drive inclusive progress throughout the industry.”
A spokesperson added, “Also on hand to offer their welcome were Captain Ashutosh Chandra, Staff Captain Emmanouil Iliopoulos, General Manager Deepak Punia and Group Service Coordinator Rodel Obinsa. The gracious professionalism of the Norwegian Aqua team reflects the care and calibre that define NCL’s approach.

“Another moment of particular resonance for WISTA members was the Government of Bermuda’s official plaque, hung prominently on the deck of the Norwegian Aqua. More than a ceremonial token, its presence echoed the spirit of the inaugural voyage to Bermuda – one of shared purpose and forward momentum. In every sense, Norwegian Aqua is indeed “leading the way” in shaping the future of cruise tourism for the island.
“The visit reflected the broader significance of World Maritime Day 2025. This year’s theme: “Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity” calls attention to the ocean’s central role in global trade and sustainability. Aboard Norwegian Aqua, WISTA Bermuda encountered the very spirit of maritime innovation, strategic clarity and forward-thinking leadership it champions.
“As a community of professionals deeply anchored in shipping and logistics, WISTA Bermuda remains committed to serving as a thoughtful steward of maritime possibility.”
