Reggie Lambe On Trinidad Qualifying Match

Reggie Lambe believes the Bermuda national football team have the ability to defeat Trinidad and Tobago in their World Cup qualifier at the Flora Duffy Stadium tomorrow [October 10].
Bermuda are seeking their first points in group B after a 4-0 home defeat to Jamaica and a narrow 3-2 loss away to Curaçao.
The group winner will advance to the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico this summer.
“We know this is where we belong, and we know we can compete against these teams,” Lambe told Bernews.
“The first game against Jamaica was a bit overwhelming, conceding four goals, but we’ve adapted to this level and took a lot of positives from the Curaçao match.”
The 34-year-old midfielder, the island’s most-capped international, said the team’s belief is high heading into the encounter with Trinidad, who are ranked 102nd in the Fifa world rankings – 63 places above Bermuda.
“We’re confident and ready,” Lambe said. “We’ve seen a fair bit of Trinidad and know we can cause them problems.
“If we execute on the day, we can come away triumphant – that would set us up nicely for our second game against Jamaica [on Tuesday].”
Lambe, who plays for English non-league side Needham Market, hopes a packed stadium will give Bermuda the extra lift they need.
“We’re pushing hard to make it to the World Cup, and that starts on Friday,” he added.
“Hopefully we can pack the stadium like we did against Jamaica.”
Now in his eighteenth year as an international, Lambe said his pride in representing Bermuda has never faded.
“Any time I wear the Bermuda shirt, I feel the same honour I did when I made my debut in 2007,” said the former Ipswich Town and Toronto FC player.
“I enjoy passing on my experiences to the younger players – helping them reach whatever heights they aim for.”
