2025 Video Game Design Challenge Winners
Bermuda Island Games hosted its 4th Video Game Design Challenge, with the Clarke team winning first place, Colton Kearns and Evan Nappee taking second, and Reya Somner and Axel Cardell-Naranjo placing third.
A spokesperson said, “On November 21st and 22nd, Bermuda Island Games held their 4th Video Game Design Challenge to see which group could come up with the best video game idea.
“As part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week, the participants had to present their business idea, showing how they would allocate $1 million dollars, to be put towards designing and publishing a video game. The judges then decide, based on a variety of factors, which “company” they want to invest in.
“Each year for the Video Game Design Challenge there is a Secret Theme – this year’s theme was Gombeys! Local aficionado Carlita Lodge was able to share her knowledge on the subject, which included the background of how they originated, the cultural nuances, and fine details such as regalia item meaning. These all helped to keep the games authentic to the actual Gombeys themselves.
“We also had two-time winners Jordi and Max Posthumus to teach the participants how to use AI [both using a browser and downloaded app] to Vibe Code and quickly build a mockup of their game. They also stuck around and lent a hand to the participants with any technical challenges they faced.
“The main area of concentration this year was on programming – all participants were encouraged to show their work, including any iterations of the work, to eventually get a working prototype of a game, similar to what their grand idea would eventually be with funding.
“By using the latest technology, each team was able to have a working game in less than 2 days, which they showcased and pitched, to win some of the amazing prizes and trophies.

“A special prize was also given, for the first time, to the best coder of the competition: Axel Cardell- Naranjo
