The Gina Spence Program [GSP] is launching the Christmas Gift of Giving, saying the “eevent brings light to what can be a heavy time for many especially children and seniors facing grief, loss, and hardship.”

A spokesperson said, “The Gina Spence Program [GSP] is closing out its 2025 ‘Give the Gift of Time’ Volunteer Campaign with full hearts and sincere thanks to every person who raised their hand to serve this year. What started as a simple invitation to get involved became a powerful reminder that in Bermuda, compassion is still alive and well.

“Over the past few months, our volunteer recruitment drive has brought in fresh energy, new faces, and willing hands to support the mission we’ve carried for over 30 years: ensuring that no one has to grieve alone. Volunteers joined us across every area of the organization from event support, outreach, and communications to administration, and fundraising becoming part of a community that shows up when it matters most.

“So far this year, volunteers have made a meaningful impact in:

  • Each One Reach One Back-to-School Campaign
  • Bermuda Grief & Loss Awareness Day [BGLAD]
  • Community Outreach Workshops and Presentations
  • Fundraising Events and Tag Days
  • Special projects and events throughout the year”

“Our volunteers are the quiet heroes behind every care package, every toy bag, every phone call to check in on a grieving family. Their hands may be behind the scenes, but their impact is front and center,” said Executive Director Mykiee Jones.

The spokesperson said, “As we wrap this campaign, we’re also gearing up for our most anticipated outreach of the year: the Christmas Gift of Giving. This cherished event brings light to what can be a heavy time for many especially children and seniors facing grief, loss, and hardship.

“Volunteers will once again play a central role in helping us deliver:

  • New and gently used toys for children
  • Healthy food hampers for families
  • Pharmaceutical gift cards for seniors

“All of this sits alongside the clinical care we offer year-round through our core programs:

  • Champions Program: Providing wraparound clinical support and care to children left behind due to gun and gang violence — the only program of its kind in Bermuda
  • Healing Hearts: Offering grief and loss counseling for individuals, families, and organizations navigating one of life’s 40+ types of loss
  • GriefConnect: Educating and equipping our community to better understand and respond to grief through school visits, workplace sessions, and community presentations
  • Signature events like Each One Reach One, Bermuda Grief & Loss Awareness Day, and of course, Christmas Gift of Giving

“The need for grief and loss services continues to grow. Families across Bermuda are experiencing losses that run deep from loved ones to livelihoods, health, and stability. At GSP, we provide safe spaces and practical support for those carrying invisible burdens. But we can’t do it alone. Volunteers make this work possible.”

“Whether you have 2 hours or 20, there’s room at the table for you to make a difference,” said Jones. “At GSP, we believe healing is a community effort and everyone has a part to play.”

The spokesperson said, “To sign up, donate, or learn more about how to get involved with our upcoming Christmas outreach, visit www.gspcharity.com or follow us at @gspcharity on all platforms. Or call 296-0016. Let’s continue to make sure no one feels forgotten this holiday season.”
