Kameron Young Launches AI & Robotics Startup
23-year-old Bermudian engineer Kameron Young has launched her own AI and robotics startup in Dubai, called Tombolo Research FZ LLC.
A spokesperson said, “Tombolo is the brainchild of this bilingual engineer who wants to change the tech landscape by representing not only women of color–but women in tech.”
“Often times, women of color are not seen in the tech space as it is dominated by men,” stated the Tombolo Founder & CEO. “I believe representation is critical and it is my hope that other young girls of color will be inspired to pursue careers in STEM.”
A spokesperson added, “Tombolo will focus on building robots that are geared towards women. Meanwhile as a startup, Tombolo offers consulting services and educational webinars and in-person sessions for the public and private sectors in an effort to generate revenue to offset its research and development costs. With this in mind, the entrepreneur has launched a Kickstarter to raise the necessary funds for research and development.”
“We are keen to develop various prototypes for our initial robot design but this will be an expensive exercise,” explained Ms Young. “We are inviting individuals to support this initiative via two-tiered subscription options. The first tier is for general donations and the second-tier starts at $500. This latter subscription option offers exclusive ‘behind-the-scenes’ access to our process in developing the robots—before they go to market. And, they will have access to our Founder & CEO via the community.”
A spokesperson added, “This is an exciting opportunity for the general public to participate in Kameron’s entrepreneurial journey. Kameron is the daughter of Angela Young and the granddaughter of the late Bro. Kenyetta Young, one of the most respected trade unionists of the Bermuda Industrial Union. The Founder holds a BEng of Biomedical Engineering from Queen Mary University of London and a Masters of Science in AI and Machine Learning from the University of Birmingham Dubai.”
