Golf: Champions Crowned At Port Royal
The Bermuda Golf Association’s 4-Ball Championships concluded at Port Royal Golf Course, with Jevon Roberts and Oliver Betschart defending their title in the Men’s Division and Ann Symonds and Tracy Burgess securing a third straight Ladies’ Championship victory after a playoff.
Roberts and Betschart finished at four-under-par 138, clinching the Bermuda 4-Ball Men’s Division title with a five-under 66 in the second round. The pair held off challengers in blustery conditions in Southampton to retain the championship.
Spencer Wideman and Derrick Irby, who shared the overnight lead, shot a one-under 70 to place second at two-under overall. Jarryd Dillas and Damian Palanyandi finished third at one-over 143 following a final-round 72.
In the Ladies’ Championship Division, the title was decided by a three-team playoff. Darina Betschart recorded a one-over-par 72, the lowest round of the day in the division, to draw level with overnight leaders Tracy Nash and Carine Brule, as well as defending champions Symonds and Burgess.
Symonds and Burgess won the three-hole playoff to claim their third consecutive Bermuda 4-Ball Ladies’ Championship.
The Senior Men’s Division also required extra holes. Sheldon Chychrun and George Hutchings tied with retired athletes Mark Ray and Kyle Lightbourne at the end of regulation play. Chychrun and Hutchings won the title after a one-hole playoff against Ray. Lightbourne was unable to participate in the playoff due to football touchline commitments.
