Organizations Celebrate First Day Of Spring
Bermuda community groups are marking the first day of spring on March 20 by celebrating renewal, promoting kindness, and offering ways for residents to engage in local nature and community activities.
A spokesperson said, “Today, March 20, 2026 marks the 1st Day of Spring for the Northern Hemisphere – the day that the Sun is positioned perpendicular to the equator. This, the beginning of the Season of Renewal, from both the biological and social perspective.
“In fact, for millennia the onset of Spring has been observed with a Celebration in appreciation for the essential Spirit of Life.
“A variety of community organizations – Bermuda is Love, Bermuda Islamic Cultural Centre, Bermuda National Trust, Chewstick Foundation, CURB, Imagine Bermuda, Greenrock, Human Rights Commission, National Assembly of the Baha’i & Social Justice Bermuda – have come together; collaborating in celebration of this Spirit at a time when the Human Family is facing grave challenges.
“Global Media is currently full of incidents of cruel brutality – exemplifying Might makes Right – with a disregard for International Law and Norms. This, at the expense of thousands of lives of ordinary citizens, tragically including many children.
“On Island we see that the Cycle of Violence persists. This, with last weekend’s fifth gun murder – father of 2 young children – since last August.
“The March Equinox marks the Dawning of Light exceeding Darkness. We join in reminding our entire community to share our inner light with any & all fellow Island residents. In doing so we foster the possibility of a Renaissance – Rebirth – locally and globally.”
Simple suggestions/options for community participation include:
- Plant at least one seed or seedling over the weekend
- Offer your assistance to a neighbour, in any variety of ways
