Police Confirm: Two Separate Fatal Collisions

Two men died yesterday [May 18] in two separate road traffic collisions, the police have confirmed.

A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the deaths of two men who lost their lives as a result of separate road traffic collisions yesterday, 18th May. These tragic incidents bring the total number of fatal road traffic collisions in Bermuda so far this year to eight.

Fatal Collision Palmetto Road, Devonshire

“Police and other first responders were dispatched to a serious two-vehicle collision involving a public bus and a motorcycle on Palmetto Road, Devonshire at approximately 11:24am on Monday, 18th May 2026.

“Initial information suggests that a 73-year-old male motorcyclist was travelling in a westerly direction when his vehicle collided with a public bus driven in the opposite direction.

“Attending officers immediately commenced lifesaving efforts until the arrival of EMTs. The victim was subsequently transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The male bus driver was not reported to be injured.

Fatal Collision Malabar Road, Sandys

“Shortly before midnight on Monday, 18th May 2026, police and other first responders attended the scene of a serious two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a livery cycle on Malabar Road in Sandys, near the junction with Kitchener Road.

“Initial information suggests that the motorcyclist was travelling in an easterly direction when he collided with a rental cycle carrying a male and female, believed to be visitors.

“The 30-year-old male motorcycle rider was found seriously injured at the scene. Lifesaving measures were initiated by attending EMTs before the victim was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries.

“The male and female occupants of the livery cycle were also transported via ambulance to hospital for treatment of injuries and later released. The male visitor has been arrested in connection with this incident and enquiries are ongoing.

“Traffic in the area was brought to a standstill for several hours while the scene was processed.
