May 20, 2026 | 0 Comments

The Ministry of Public Works and Environment advised that “installation works for the Swing Bridge pre-construction detour route in St. George’s will begin on Monday, 25 May 2026, and continue through Monday, 7 September 2026.”

A Government spokesperson said, “The works are required to facilitate the staging area for the construction of the new bridge. The detour route will be constructed in four phases, with multiple running road closures and traffic controls in place during the project period.

“Phase I will involve closing the road at Gate #1, with no access from the roundabout to Kindley Field Park, to allow construction of a temporary bus turnaround area. During this phase, park access will be available via Wallast Point Road from Monday, 25 May 2026, through Thursday, 11 June 2026.

“Phase II will involve temporarily relocating the bus stop from east of the existing roundabout to the south along the wall to establish a one-way roundabout system through the bus lane. This phase is scheduled from Thursday, 11 June 2026, through Thursday, 7 July 2026.

“Phase III will include construction of a mini-roundabout at Gate #1 with a sidewalk, closure of St. David’s Road access, and relocation of the bus turnaround into Kindley Field Park. Phase IV will involve the construction of a mini-roundabout at Gate #2 on Carters Bay Road, starting in July 2026 and continuing through Monday, 7 September 2026.

“Working hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. The schedule is tentative and may vary due to weather or other operational concerns.

“Traffic controls will be managed by Ministry of Public Works and Environment representatives using barricades, cones, and stop-and-go personnel.

“Motorists are advised to travel carefully through the phased detour routes, follow all posted signs, and allow extra time when travelling through the area.

“The Ministry encourages cooperation from the motoring public and apologises for any inconvenience caused.”
